METROPLAN ORLANDO Board Elects 2009 Officers

METROPLAN ORLANDO Board unanimously elects Osceola County Commissioner John Quiñones to serve as chairman for 2009, overseeing the transportation planning agency.

The METROPLAN ORLANDO Board elected a new slate of officers at its January meeting. Osceola County Commissioner John Quiñones will serve as the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board Chairman for 2009, overseeing activities for the 19-member board. Quiñones replaces Seminole County Commissioner Carlton Henley as the head of the regions transportation planning organization. Quiñones has served on the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board since January 2008.

"I am honored to be elected as chairman in the year that we'll be adopting the 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan for the region," said Quiñones. "We know that strengthening transit choices in our region is vital. Finding a dedicated funding source for mass transit in our community, including LYNX and commuter rail, will continue to be a top priority."

Quiñones also serves as the vice-chairman of the Central Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Alliance, a regional coalition of transportation planning agencies organizations.

Orange County Commissioner Bill Segal was elected vice chairman and Seminole County Commissioner Bob Dallari was elected secretary/treasurer for the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board. All terms will run through December 2009.

METROPLAN ORLANDO is the metropolitan planning organization for Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties – the Orlando Urban Area. As the regional transportation planning organization, METROPLAN ORLANDO provides the forum for local elected officials and transportation experts to work together to improve transportation for Central Florida residents, businesses and visitors.
